Boys golf: Somers' Nathan Han is back on top in Section 1

WHITE PLAINS - On a breezy day at Fenway Golf Club Wednesday, the leaderboard was populated by players who had experience on this course, especially on its slick greens. Yet even with competition from several past state-tournament qualifiers, Nathan Han proved again that he was Section 1's best.
The Somers senior shot the best score of the day, a final-round 72, and it allowed him to win Section 1's boys golf championship by five shots.
Han finished with a birdie on the 18th, leaving him five shots clear of runners-up Judson Langille of Ossining and Charlie Berridge of Scarsdale.
Han won the Section 1 tournament as a sophomore and went on to earn the NYSPHSAA state championship at Cornell the following week. He spent last school year at Ethan Allen Prep in Ridgefield, Connecticut before returning to Somers. Han led Section 1 in scoring differential during the regular season and now has his second sectional title.
Han will be one of nine players headed to the state tournament next week. He will be joined by Langille, who tied for second for the second straight year; Allen and Suffern's Alex Kyriacou, who are both three-time state qualifiers; Scarsdale's Steven Lee and Andy Fan, who are also past qualifiers; and first-timers Berridge, John Jay-Cross River's Chris Walsh and Harrison's Joseph Reilly.
All nine players shot rounds of 80 or better Wednesday. Berridge, playing in the second-to-last group, fired the next-best score after Han, a 74.
The qualifiers will all compete on June 2-3 at the state championships, which are hosted in Ithaca on Cornell's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
